Doggie Treats to Beat the Heat

With the Texas heat upon us, I know that pups are suffering too. Besides a water sprinkler and shearing all their fur off, I have a great way too help cool our four-legged friends. Frozen doggie treats! A simple three-ingredient treat that is great for your pets. If your dog is a fan of peanut butter, than you are definitely going to get two paws up for this tasty snack!

IMG_8317.jpg

I love to give our dog this treat when we are grilling outside, or if we are cooling off with some ice cream or popsicles too. You can use an ice-tray (silicon trays work best), or even make a larger portion by freezing the treat in a disposable cup.

Finding the Perfect Maxi Dress

I have a black maxi dress, and our love is undeniable. I wear it year round, and I have actually bought this same dress twice in the last four years.

I am not sure when the sparks started with this dress, but it is the ultimate traveling outfit, the best beachwear, and a great dress for a day of shopping too. I wear it so many ways, and it can actually be worn as a skirt too!

Girls Weekend

Recently, I had the opportunity to meet some of my college girlfriends in Fredericksburg, Texas for the weekend. We had the BEST time being together, and when we met up it was like time didn’t pass at all. I loved every minute of it!

Being pregnant didn’t slow me down one bit either. I kept up with the girls the whole weekend, but Fredericksburg is a hard place to stop exploring. When it was time to enjoy a cocktail, I would splurge with a great dessert or a Shirley Temple (a cherry Sprite).

For meals, we went to Pasta Bella, Burger BurgerFredericksburg Herb Farm, and Silver Creek. Each of these places were very different, but always had something for everyone.

On Saturday, we shopped around Main Street and then went to Becker Vineyards and Grape Creek Vineyards. Both have a wonderful atmosphere with music. Grape Creek even has a small restaurant for those who need a meal to go with the fine wine.

For evening entertainment, we went to Crossroads to listen to a great cover band and Silver Creek for some great live music.

During the weekend, we stayed at the Inn on Barons Creek. They had great breakfast and a very relaxing environment. It is right off Main Street, allowing you to walk up and down the street all day.

I hope you have the opportunity some day to venture out to Fredericksburg, TX. All of us girls have been there before, so we only visited our favorite places. But for those first-timers, I highly recommend seeing all the sites and even taking a full wine tour! If you are a explorer, the Enchanted Rock is a great place for you too.

Happy Travels!

Getting Ready for the Fourth of July

Fourth of July is right around the corner. How are you planning to celebrate? With the upcoming festivities, I want you to be dressed for the occasion!

There are great swimsuit options here: Target Swimsuit Top | Target Swimwuit Bottom . But if water isn’t in the future, I have a festive option for you! I found a large American flag print scarf and turned it into a vest with my black tank dress. It is my absolute favorite!

A New Addition

I’m so excited to announce to my readers today that our family is growing by one! WE ARE EXPECTING! Baby P is due to arrive this October, and we couldn’t be happier.

Along with making the most of your closet, sharing recipes, and other fun ideas, I am happy to share my pregnancy journey with you and help you when it comes to shopping for yourself and your little ones. Shopping for clothes is something I have found to be a difficult journey, and I want to help you conquer being a cute pregnant mom-to-be!

This past weekend we had a gender reveal with our family and loved ones. We found out that Baby P is a boy! Below are some photos from the big reveal. Our guests came dressed in their guess wearing pink or blue. As you can see, my guess was a girl and my husband’s was a boy. He won the guessing game this time!

Father’s Day

My dad and me in honor of Father’s Day this weekend:

Father’s Day is quickly approaching. Do you have what you need to show your love to those fathers in your life?

For some reason, I always feel that fathers are tough to buy for when it comes to gifts. The men in my family don’t have hobbies that have gift-buying qualities affiliated with them. Or when these men finally have something you can buy, they usually go out and buy them on their own. It is a tough world when it comes to show appreciation.

If you can relate these types of fathers, I can hopefully help ease your frustration with some great gift ideas this year.

One of the things my dad really likes to do is solve puzzles. Shutterfly has a great product where you can put your own photo on a puzzle. They can make the puzzle into 60 or 252 pieces. Right now, they have great discounts in honor of Father’s Day. So don’t forget to look at those promo codes! Click on the following link to get started on your own puzzle: Shutterfly

Another option is to have your man’s toes tended to. You would be surprised how common it is for men to have pedicures these days. Why not treat yourself and that special father to a pedicure? I suggest letting them try a hot stone pedicure. If a pedicure isn’t up your father’s alley, a massage is another great option too!

If you are on the craftier side, or don’t have enough time to have something shipped to you, I found fun idea to show your love. It is a lotto ticket bouquet. You can budget as much as you want for this gift, and really make it your own. Here is one example that I really loved and plan to use from blupla.com:

I wish you the best on your Father’s Day gift this year, and I would love to hear from you on any great gifts you have given in the past or are giving this year. Comment below with any suggestions or ideas!

Crockpot Crazy

Whether you are on a budget, or don’t want to prepare supper when you come home from work, crockpot meals are the answer for you. I have some of the best crockpot books I want to share with you today: The Crockin Girls Slow Cookin’ Companion and The Crockin Girls It’s Our Crockin’ Life.

IMG_8202.JPG

I apologize for all the sticky notes! It’s an easy way for me to find the meals I want to cook.

These cookbooks are categorized by type of meat and type of meal. I love coming to these books when we are short on groceries because I can use what I have in the pantry and make a great meal.

When I am away from the house all day, it is also easy to find a meal that cooks for eight or more hours on low. Then when we come home from a long day of work, our meal is ready to serve! It’s easy and delicious.

If you don’t have a crockpot, I highly recommend purchasing one to start making these easy meals that will make the whole family happy. Here are some links to my favorite crockpots: Crock Pot 6-Quart Smart Pot and Hamilton Beach 3-Quart Stoneware Slow Cooker

Once you have a crockpot in your kitchen, I recommend purchasing these books! Here are the links to purchase the books: The Crockin Grils Slow Cookin’ Companion and The Crockin Girls It’s Our Crockin’ Life

Lastly, I HIGHLY recommend purchasing Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners. They are a lifesaver when it comes to clean up, and I never slow cook without them!

If you want to check out these creative chefs/authors more, you are welcome to check out their site at crockingirls.com.

I would love to hear your favorite crockpot recipes too! Feel free to comment below. I always love to recipes to try!

Graduation Time

Brothers, sisters, cousins, and loved ones – out of your family and friends circle, I bet someone is graduating this year. Along with sitting amongst hundreds to watch that graduate cross the stage and receive their diploma, a gift is usually provided to that graduate as well.

If you are looking for something unique and fun for a graduate, I have a great gift to share. I actually received this similar gift when I graduated from high school from some wonderful people. I still have it and use it today too!

I like to call this gift an “everything toolbox.” It literally has everything you can think of for people going out on their own. Zip ties, silly putty, screwdrivers, batteries…the list goes on and on until the box is full.

When I headed off to college, my box always seemed to have just what I was looking for: extra staples, ziplock bags, and the right-sized nail to hang something. It was always there for me, and still is today! I had to share this amazing box with our cousin that recently graduated high school, and it was so fun to build! Below are photos of the toolbox and things inside. I also included a list if you needed a starting point for yourself:

Take Care of Your Skin!

IMG_8191

With the hot summer sun approaching, and already here in Texas, it is even more important to take care of your skin.

Growing up, I was always in sun and I still am today. But when I was younger, I really took advantage of my healthy skin. I never wore sunscreen and my skin care regimen was minimal. I washed my face in the morning, after athletics, and before bed.

As I got older, I realized how important it really is to take care of your skin. Being a late follower to protecting my skin, I have some great products I would love to share with you:

IMG_8192

#1: Neutrogena Moisturizing Sunscreen . It goes with me everywhere. If I am not wearing makeup, this sunscreen instantly hits my face after it’s washed. Don’t forget to put sunscreen all over your body too! I always make sure to put sunscreen on my arms before I leave the house too.

IMG_8197

#2 I use Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser every time I wash my face. I starting using Cetaphil when I was a teenager, and I haven’t found anything that works better for my skin at this time. I do suggest taking off your eye makeup before using this soap, as Cetaphil will not get it all off.

IMG_8196

#3  To take off eye makeup, I actually use Johnson and Johnson’s Baby Oil  . I put a dab on a cotton ball, and wipe away. Baby oil is also known for making your under eye more youthful too!

IMG_8195

#4 Before bed, I love to use Benefit’s Total Moisture Facial Cream. It smells wonderful and feels great on my skin. If you are an Ulta shopper, you can actually get this moisturizer for free here: Ulta Benefit Moisturizer

I hope you take care of your skin. Be the best-looking you!

Chicken Parmesan Baked!

Italian food is my husband’s favorite kind of food. I typically don’t make it because of high carb and calorie content. However, I recently found a healthier option to Italian food. Chicken parmesan that is baked! It is still lightly fried for the crispy texture, but it is a much lighter option than what you would eat at an Italian restaurant. I usually make whole wheat penne pasta instead of regular spaghetti noodles as well.

chickparm

I hope you enjoy this version of chicken parmesan as much as my family! My recipe below is from an original recipe of Self Proclaimed Foodie. You can find their recipe here: Perfect Chicken Parmesan

Baked Chicken Parmesan

Serves Four

  • 4 boneless chicken breasts (skinless)
  • 3 cups of penne pasta
  • salt & pepper
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup of bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 (25 ounce) jar pasta sauce

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Use plastic wrap to cover chicken. Use a meat pounder or rolling pin to tenderize meat. Make about a half-inch thick.

Have three bowls on the counter. Add flour to one bowl. Add the beaten egg to another bowl. Combine the bread crumbs, ½ cup of parmesan cheese, along with basil, oregano, salt and pepper into the third bowl.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Dredge chicken in flower, then coat with egg, then cover with the bread crumb mixture. Press coating onto chicken to get as much as possible to stick.

When oil is hot (when you see bubbles coming from the bottom of the pan), add your coated chicken to the pan. Cook each breast about two minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove from the pan and transfer to a baking dish. Cover each breast with some pasta sauce. Make sure to reserve some of the sauce for the pasta on the side. Cook chicken in the oven about 5-10 minutes.

Bon Appetit!
